Appreciating Happiness

In the words of Heavy D & The Boyz, "Now that we found love what are we gonna do with it?"

We often look for help when having a difficult time, but what about the good times? The body scan below is a helpful way to connect more deeply with a happy moment with your partner.

Body Scan Meditation

Find a quiet place to lay down comfortably

  1. Take a moment to get into a comfortable position
  2. Start by focusing your attention on your feet and notice any sensations in them
    • Are they hot are cold?
    • Can you feel them touching the bed or your socks?
    • Try to notice any sensations without judgment
  3. From there, move your attention to your legs, pelvis, torso, chest, arms and head, stopping at each to feel the sensations present
  4. Move as quickly or as slowly as you feel comfortable as you scan the body

This may not immediately seem like a way to appreciate the happiness of a particular moment, but the goal of this practice is for you to notice what your body feels and how it reacts to your current situation. To discover what's present in your body. As you repeatedly practice this body scan, you can begin painting a picture in your mind of what connection and love feels like in your body. Approach the practice with a sense of curiosity and interest. What does happiness feel like to me? How do I experience happiness in my body?

"Why is it," he said, one time, at the subway entrance, "I feel I've known you so many years?"
"Because I like you," she said, "and I don't want anything from you."
